Lorraine Buckrell

Lorraine was born in Guelph Ontario.

In 1993, she earned a BA in fine arts from Bishops University, focused on photography, drawing and painting. After some time travelling and adventuring overseas, she continued her studies in painting and drawing at Emily Carr University of Art and Design, earning her BFA in 2000.

Lorraine's interests in painting are informed by her influences of Abstract expressionism and minimalism. She is engaged in exploring surfaces through painterly layers of colour and gestural mark making. It is the mystery of the unknown and the possibility of her process, as revealed through the working of surfaces that intrigue her most. "I'm excited by the process of building and removing layers to reveal a history that can potentially tell a new visual story."

Lorraine currently resides in the Comox Valley where she supports her art practice by her other loves, dog walking, petsitting, coaching alpine ski racing and teaching yoga.
